Shopify Launches a New Integration on Its Platform

Here's what it's about

Once you start a chat, it communicates with the Shopify API to retrieve the requested information. This data is now structured within the Model Context Protocol (MCP), making the connection between AI and API secure and standardized. The tool processes it and returns it directly to the chat.

What you can do

From the chat, you can check orders, update prices, review product performance, adjust inventory, manage customer data, create discounts, and obtain overall analytics of your store.

How to apply it to your store

Step 1: Choose your tool and install the connector
No code (for store owners or management profiles):

In ChatGPT: open the ChatGPT App Store and search for the official Shopify app.
In Claude: click on "Search and tools," select "Add connectors," and find Shopify in the directory.
With technical setup (for developers):
Install the Shopify AI Toolkit for Claude Code, which connects Claude directly to the API, CLI, and your store's code.

Step 2: Authenticate with Shopify

Both options will redirect you to your store's admin panel to confirm ownership.

Step 3: Review and approve permissions

You will see a screen with the access levels you are granting: read-only or also write.
Read each permission carefully before accepting; once approved, you cannot reduce them without uninstalling the app.

Step 4: Start using

Activate the connector from the tools menu and begin asking questions about your store directly in the chat.

What you need to keep in mind

Incorrect permission settings could lead to unwanted changes in prices, stocks, or discounts. Always review the access level you are granting before confirming.

A glimpse of what's coming

What seems inevitable is that AI will have an increasing presence within Shopify and that, over time, more autonomous and precise functionalities will arrive. For now, the most sensible option is to combine the tool with human judgment.
